Uphill towards the Moa" It was beautiful sunny weather for the inaugural Kekerengu Moa Hunt situated on the Kaikoura Coast. Former Marlborough cyclist Andy Reid now living in Lyttleton scorched around the 40km picturesque course in 1hr 51mins and 02 secs and was three minutes clear of 2nd place getter Ben Thomas from Christchurch. Reid dominated the race throughout in what was beautiful racing conditions.  He said the course was one of the best he had ever ridden and will be back to defend his title in 2008.

Kekerengu Moa HuntFormer NZ cycling rep Susie Wood from Nelson cleaned up the womens section in a time of 2.14.08 and was 31mins clear of the second place getter Tracey Flatman.

Coast to Coast multisport legend Steve Guurney took out the Roosters Two section in a great time of 2.02.51

Steve said   "The inaugural Moa Hunt mountain bike ride was a stunner!
In true Halligan fashion it was superbly organized with plenty of personality and character to the event.

Kekerengu Moa HuntTechnically, it’s a very achievable event, perfect for newbies at mountain biking, although you’ll need some fitness to get up the first hill. Just select an easy gear and grind for 40 mins. The stunning views of Tapuae-o-uenuku are definitely “earned” but you won’t be disappointed as that majestic mountain dominates the track from there on. The down-hill is something to write home about and I couldn’t resist getting some air on the roll-overs, yee har!."

The event is now on the annual calender with a new limit of 1000 riders and is set for 29 November  2008.
